Lennie Gallant
When We Get There
Lennie
Gallant has been flying under my musical radar in recent years
...his first couple of albums, Open Window and Believing In Better,
were well received in the country marketplace but more recently
he concentrated on a “Live” album and a French song
collection; and as a result this When We Get There collection
marks his first studio album in seven years. Best get reacquainted
with Lennie Gallant, because this album is filled with special
gems... several of which should attract country radio's attention.
Lennie
Gallant is a marvelous songwriter, and he delivers his folk-flavored
songs in a deliciously smooth and tasty vocal style: Several songs
on this album literally jump out at you, but none comes better
than There Must Be Another Song. Here Lennie Gallant spins the
tale of a battered guitar and how it is brought back to life again
to deliver one more song... masterful stuff. Also a standout is
Pieces Of You (previously heard on Gallant's "Live" album);
while Eleven Roses (not the Hank Williams Jr. hit song), is a
poignant piece of writing by Gallant.
The
album's lead single I Want To Save The World For You is also a
key track here; with other potential singles coming in Seven Years,
the picturesque 47 Angels On Her Front Lawn and the album's title
track, When We Get There.
After
all of these great songs ...there's still one here that is even
more stunning. Lennie Gallant has written a Christmas ballad -
The Innkeeper. It tells the story of that ‘first night’,
from the perspective of the innkeeper who couldn't find room at
his establishment. This is a song that, in the hands of one of
today’s ‘superstars', would become a monster hit record
and go way beyond being a Christmas song.
When
We Get There was co-produced by Lennie Gallant with Davy Gallant
at his Drummondville, Quebec studios.
